BICOS Laptop Check Out Policy and Procedures

Laptop loaner service is funded through the Golden Leaf Foundation and coordinated by Braswell Memorial Library and the BICOS Advisory Committee.

Laptop check-out is intended for BICOS-related use only in accordance with BICOS User Policies and Loan Agreement.  

All patrons requesting to check out a laptop MUST have a valid library card from the library he/she is checking it out from and a NCDL or government ID that has not expired.  The patron MUST also be referred by a SCORE counselor or Small Business Center director of Nash, Edgecombe or Halifax County.

▪           A limited number of laptop computers are available to customers who are starting their own business or are already in business.  To become a BICOS member or SCORE client, a Loan Agreement must be completed and signed accepting responsibility for any loss or damage to the laptop computer.

▪           Laptops will be loaned for a 7-day circulation period with a deposit of $250 payable by cash or check.  The $250 deposit will be returned when the laptop is returned.  The laptop is valued at $1400.  If the due date falls on a day the library is closed (Sunday or holiday) the laptop should be returned and checked in by the closing of the next business day.

▪           Laptops may be renewed in increments of 7 days if the unit is not reserved for another customer.  Renewals must be made in person during library hours of operation.  Renewals must be made on the renewal due date set forth in the contract agreement.  Extension of the loan periods will be noted on the library copy of the contract agreement.

▪           Reservations may be made by phone or in person.

▪           To assure availability, back-to-back reservations of the same laptop by the same customer will not be accepted.

▪           Customers must comply with check-out and check-in procedures of the BICOS program.

▪           Customers must complete a contract agreement each time a laptop is borrowed. A renewal will need to be re-signed and re-dated.

▪           Customers may check out only one laptop at a time.

▪           Laptops must be returned in the same operating condition as when it was borrowed, including all accessories (headphones, battery charger, bag).  Charges for repair and/or replacement of equipment and accessories will be accessed to library card accounts according to established library guidelines.

▪           A laptop must be returned or renewed one hour prior to library closing on the day it is due according to the signed contract agreement in order to allow adequate time to ready it for the next use.

▪           A NONREFUNDABLE late fee of $50 a day will be charged if the laptop is not returned by the agreed upon date and time.

▪           The Police Department may be notified by the library if a laptop is not returned promptly, according to the contract agreement.

▪           Customers MAY NOT install any software to the laptop.  It could change the system’s setup and make the laptop unusable.

▪           Customers needing assistance with modem and/or Internet settings should work with their individual Internet service providers.

▪           The library does not guarantee the compatibility of loaned laptops with  data computers or other types of equipment.

▪           Laptops must be returned with a complete charge.

▪           Customers that are BICOS/SCORE clients may also use the CD Burner at the library.  The CD Burner does not check out and there is no fee to use it.
